The effect of the Ranitidine (Zantac^(®)) in the treatment of acute gastritis

Abstract

|
The therapeutic efficacy of Ranitidine was evaluated in 41 in-and out-patients with endoscopically diagnosed acute gastritis. All cases observed were divided into two groups, one for combination treated group (Ranitidine+antacid) (20cases), the other for single treated group (antacid only) (21cases).
Combination treated group was given the Ranitidine, 150mg, b.i.d. orally and antacids.
The following results were obtained.
1) Epigastric pain, which was experienced by almost every patients, was improved in 70.6% after 5 days, and 94% after 10 days in combination treated group; where-as the symptom was improved in 55.6% after 5 days and 78% after 10 days in single treated group. 2) Healing rate of the acute gastric mucosal lesion after 2weeks of treatment was 88% in combination treated group and 67% in single treated group.
3) Untoward side effect was noted in only one patient; transient puffy face.
